Vhi wins Green Healthcare Achievement Award at Private Healthcare Awards 2025

In a standout sustainability win from last year, Vhi claimed the Green Healthcare Achievement Award at the Private Healthcare Awards 2025, recognised for its Code Green initiative and its measurable impact on waste reduction across its clinical network.

Launched across six Vhi clinics, Code Green was designed to educate, motivate, and equip staff to sort waste more effectively while maintaining high standards of patient care. 

The results were significant. Vhi reduced healthcare risk waste (HCRW) kilograms per patient attendance by 34%, increased recycling volumes by 20%, and cut the overall climate impact of waste generated at participating sites by approximately 20%. The initiative demonstrated how staff engagement and practical systems can deliver meaningful environmental outcomes at scale.

Judges praised the programme for translating ambition into action. “Vhi stood out for its Code Green initiative, transforming sustainability in healthcare with real, measurable impact,” the panel said.

“By cutting clinical waste, increasing recycling, and maintaining exceptional care standards, the programme shows how innovation and staff engagement can make sustainability part of everyday practice. Across multiple clinics, Vhi is setting a new standard for environmentally responsible healthcare,” the panel added. 

The recognition reflects the rising standards within the Private Healthcare Awards, where sustainability and operational responsibility are increasingly central to excellence. Vhi’s achievement highlights how environmental leadership can be integrated seamlessly into clinical environments without compromising care quality.

With the 2026 awards cycle on the horizon, the Private Healthcare Awards will continue to spotlight organisations embedding sustainability, innovation, and accountability into healthcare delivery.
