Australia-based point-of-care diagnostics company Nexsen has secured its first hospital partner in Asia, entering a binding term sheet with GHK Hospital, a subsidiary of Malaysia-headquartered IHH Healthcare Berhad, to clinically validate and potentially commercialise its rapid diagnostic platform across the IHH North Asia network.

According to BioSpectrum Asia, GHK owns Gleneagles Hospital Hong Kong, a 500-bed multi-speciality private tertiary hospital and private teaching hospital operating in partnership with The University of Hong Kong. The collaboration framework covers clinical validation of Nexsen's point-of-care tests in relevant patient populations, real-world data generation to inform clinical workflows and care pathways, and assessment of pricing and reimbursement feasibility across Hong Kong and other IHH-connected markets in North Asia.

The agreement also encompasses joint educational and training activities to support appropriate product use by clinicians, and joint research, development and grant collaboration, including applications for Hong Kong Government, regional and international funding.

Managing director Mark Muzzin said the partnership bridges product development and market entry. "This partnership materially strengthens Nexsen's ability to execute its Asia-Pacific strategy, providing a critical bridge between product development and real-world adoption across one of the world's most important healthcare regions."

Nexsen and GHK intend to progress the framework into one or more definitive agreements within six months, with initial work focused on clinical validation of Nexsen's Group B Streptococcus and kidney function diagnostics within GHK and affiliated IHH entities.

The GHK agreement is Nexsen's third foundational Asia-Pacific initiative, following HK$6 million in IGNITE Grant funding for Hong Kong research and development facilities and the establishment of the UM-Nexsen Joint Research Facility at Universiti Malaya in Malaysia.
