Affidea, a pan-European provider of outpatient diagnostic and specialist healthcare services, has signed an agreement to acquire two advanced diagnostic imaging centres in Harley Street and Marylebone, London, from UK-based Alliance Medical. The deal builds on the group’s existing UK footprint and extends its London presence beyond its Fortius Clinic facilities.

Affidea is majority-owned by Groupe Bruxelles Lambert, operates community clinics across the UK and the Republic of Ireland, and entered the UK market through its 2021 acquisition of Fortius Clinic. The release carries no turnover or EBITDA figures for either company.

“Further expansion in the London market is an important milestone in Affidea’s long-term UK strategy,” said Barry Downes, CEO of Affidea UK & Ireland, who added that the deal would bring the group’s European expertise in advanced diagnostics to Harley Street.

Dr Charles Niehaus, executive director of Affidea Group, described the UK as “one of Europe’s most dynamic private healthcare markets and an important strategic priority for Affidea”. He said the deal reflects the group’s commitment to investing in modern out-of-hospital facilities, advanced diagnostics and nuclear medicine.

The two centres will be rebranded as Affidea once the deal completes, which is expected at the end of October subject to customary completion conditions. Until then they continue to operate as part of Alliance Medical.

The structural driver is Affidea’s UK growth strategy, which pairs acquired imaging capacity with its Fortius Clinic and NeuraCare centres of excellence and a forthcoming flagship clinic at Wimbledon Quarter.

For the sector, the deal confirms that European diagnostics groups are building London scale by acquiring established imaging centres alongside opening new clinics.
