Signum Surgical appoints medtech veteran Mark Foley as chairman to drive BioHealx® commercial expansion

Galway-headquartered medical technology company Signum Surgical has appointed Mark J. Foley as Chairman of the Board, bringing more than three decades of global medtech leadership to the company as it accelerates adoption of its BioHealx® technology for the treatment of anal fistulas.

According to Business Wire, Foley's appointment takes effect immediately and coincides with Signum Surgical's push to broaden the commercial reach of BioHealx®, which received FDA De Novo 510(k) clearance and has been available in the US market for the past six months. The company is focused on expanding both domestic and international adoption of the device.

Anal fistulas are estimated to affect one in 5,000 people worldwide and represent a condition that is both debilitating and prone to recurrence. BioHealx® addresses the condition through a bioabsorbable helical implant that applies controlled extraluminal compression to close the fistula tract within the sphincter muscle — a minimally invasive mechanism designed to reduce the risks associated with conventional surgical intervention.

Clinical data support an 84.4% success rate, with outcomes demonstrating preservation of continence and improved patient quality of life, positioning the device as a differentiated alternative within colorectal care.
