UAE private hospital Burjeel Medical City has partnered with New York-based Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Centre to establish a dedicated thoracic surgery service, bringing specialist oncology capability to the UAE and reducing the need for regional patients to seek treatment abroad.

According to a report by Healthcare Asia Magazine, the clinical and academic collaboration combines Roswell Park's clinical protocols, multidisciplinary expertise, and academic capabilities with Burjeel Medical City's infrastructure, oncology services, and hospital network. The programme is designed to serve patients from the UAE and the wider Middle East and North Africa region.

The thoracic surgery service will offer robot-assisted, video-assisted thoracoscopic, and conventional open procedures based on individual clinical needs. The programme will be integrated into the multidisciplinary care model of Burjeel Cancer Institute, bringing together thoracic surgery, medical oncology, radiation oncology, pulmonology, pathology, and radiology within a coordinated clinical framework.

Beyond clinical service delivery, the collaboration extends to clinical protocol development, scientific programmes, educational activities, faculty engagement, clinician exchanges, and professional development, establishing an ongoing academic relationship between the two institutions alongside the operational thoracic surgery programme.

The partnership positions Burjeel Medical City as a regional centre for thoracic oncology, with access to Roswell Park's established clinical protocols and academic infrastructure providing a foundation for delivering internationally benchmarked care within the UAE.
