Bon Secours opens €213m private hospital in Limerick

Bon Secours Health has unveiled a €213m private hospital in Ballysimon, Limerick, marking the first new acute hospital development in Ireland in almost two decades. This landmark investment is one of the largest ever in the Mid-West region and sets a new benchmark for private healthcare infrastructure.

The phased opening starts with the relocation of initial services, most notably the hospital’s cardiac catheterisation laboratory, the first private cath lab in Limerick and the wider Mid-West. This facility introduces advanced cardiac interventions previously unavailable in the region’s private sector.

Over the coming weeks, surgical services and associated specialties will begin transitioning into the new premises. In subsequent months, the hospital will broaden its clinical offerings to include cardiology, respiratory medicine, neurology, ophthalmology, dermatology, and advanced diagnostic imaging, positioning it as a comprehensive private healthcare hub.

Alan Sharp, Group CEO of Bon Secours Health System, highlighted that the investment reflects a long-term strategy to expand access to high-quality care, foster medical innovation, and generate sustainable employment opportunities in the region. Jason Kenny, CEO of Bon Secours Hospital Limerick, emphasised the impact on patient care and workforce development, noting the hospital will provide state-of-the-art technology and expert medical services from day one.
