Avatar Medical and Barco introduce glasses-free 3D imaging for private healthcare

Avatar Medical, a US-based AI medical software provider, and Belgian imaging company Barco have unveiled Eonis Vision, a glasses-free 3D imaging system aimed at transforming private healthcare consultations.

The system integrates Avatar’s 3D visualization software with Barco’s autostereoscopic display, providing physicians and patients with shared, real-time CT and MR scan visualizations without the need for headsets or glasses.

Eonis Vision converts complex imaging data into anatomically precise, interactive 3D avatars. These images are displayed on Barco’s novel 3D screens, allowing clinicians to guide patients through their conditions and treatment options with greater clarity. By facilitating intuitive, collaborative understanding, the system aims to improve decision-making and patient confidence during consultations.

The platform is designed for seamless integration within existing clinical workflows, including electronic medical records and picture archiving and communication systems (PACS). High-speed rendering ensures that image processing does not disrupt daily operations. The system also supports AI-driven insights, enhancing diagnostic accuracy and efficiency.

Clinical feedback highlights its value in improving patient engagement. Dr Myriam Delomenie, an oncologic surgeon at the American Hospital of Paris, reported that patients using Avatar’s earlier software gained a clearer understanding of their diagnoses and felt more actively involved in care decisions.

Eonis Vision, built on Leia Inc.’s Immersity technology, is being marketed as the first glasses-free 3D display specifically for medical imaging. Commercial availability is expected by the end of November 2025, pending FDA clearance of the updated Avatar Medical Vision software. The system will be showcased at RSNA 2025 in Chicago from 30 November to 4 December.
